About Bayfield
Providing professional wetland credit sales for your next project
Bayfield Mitigation Bank is focused on protecting our critical Florida Wetlands by assisting government agencies, commercial land developers and private property owners with the purchase of “credits” from our approved wetland mitigation bank in accordance with State and Federal wetland mitigation laws.
The site is in Columbia County, north of Lake City, and east of White Springs. Bayfield lies within the Upper Suwannee River Basin Hydrologic Unit Code. Bayfield serves as compensatory mitigation for projects that impact freshwater forested wetlands and hydric flatwoods/wet prairie.
The goal of the project is the preservation of the site and the enhancement of the seven described natural community types:
longleaf pine/xeric oak
mesic pine flatwoods
hydric pine flatwoods
ecotone
cypress dominated depressions
mixed wetland depressions
mixed slough and stream swamp
To reach this goal, actions such as slash pine reduction and bedding removal, woody shrub reduction, exotic and nuisance flora and fauna control, prescribed fire management, establishment of longleaf pine stands, supplemental planting of trees and herbaceous groundcover, the enhancement of hydrology via the addition of ditch blocks and ditch plugs, and the installation and removal of culverts and low-water crossings have been completed.
